About Us

Following a resurgence of interest in irish music, culture & language in the 1950’s Coalisland/Clonoe Comhaltas branch was formed on the 1st of March 1959. We are proud to be the first branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann formed outside of Belfast, and have remained active in all the years since. Coalisland/Clonoe CCE was one of the first branches in Ulster to arrange formal music classes in 1964 & this strong ethos continues to the present day.

Coalisland/Clonoe CCE have hosted the Tyrone Fleadh very successfully in 1983, 1989, 1995, 2003 and 2014. In addition to this we also hosted the Ulster Fleadh in 2006 & 2007.

As well as hosting fleadhanna our branch has a very active programme of events throughout the year. We run weekly music classes each Wednesday from Sept-June which caters for 150+ students (young & not-so-young alike). In the classes we provide tuition in whistle, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, bodhran, flute, button accordion, singing & concertina for all abilities from beginner to advanced. One of our annual highlights is our St Patrick’s Weekend Showcase Concert which gives all our musicians an opportunity to put what they have learnt into practice on stage. Our branch also hosts a monthly session on the first Friday of every month from Sept-May, the location of which is rotated throughout the catchment area of Coalisland/Clonoe CCE. This year we have introduced regular Family Sessions on Sunday afternoons which give all our learner musicians & singers a chance to partake in the session scene at a somewhat more relaxed pace.

Coalisland/Clonoe CCE are also proud to be associated with numerous other community groups including local sporting organisations, CRAIC Theatre and provide entertainment at a wide variety of charitable events throughout the year. We also have strong links with the Mid-Ulster Council.

Our branch is a highly proactive organisation, and we are proud to be one of the strongest branches in Ulster. We have nearly 300 members and our continuing success is a testament to those founder members who formed that first committee in 1959. If you would like more information on our branch & how you could become a member or attend our events or classes please find us on FB.
