Coalisland Clonoe Comhaltas Spring Féile 2016

Coalisland Clonoe Comhaltas Spring Féile 2016 will take place on Friday 29 April – Sunday 1 May.  The headline act for this year’s Féile is the critically acclaimed Zoe Conway and John McIntyre.  With an exciting blend of eclectic fiddle and guitar music, Zoë Conway and John McIntyre bring to the stage sympathetic arrangements of traditional Irish music, compositions and songs, old and new.  The husband and wife folk duo possesses a rare facility to draw pieces into their repertoire from other genres such as classical, jazz and world music and express this material in way which not only displays the sheer range and knowledge of both instrumentalists but also exhibits the wonderful versatility of their instruments.  Together, Zoë Conway and John Mc Intyre have been described as “simply one of the best folk duos on the planet” (BBC), and audiences in Ireland and beyond keep coming back for more. They have performed for rock stars, millionaires and dignitaries around the world, including Irish Presidents Mary McAleese and Michael D. Higgins. They were awarded ‘Best Live Show’ from popular YouTube channel, Balcony TV, and have received in excess of a combined 250,000 views online. The recent release of their critically acclaimed album entitled Go Mairir I Bhfad_Long Life To You has brought international attention to the duo, and so they are increasingly in demand in Ireland and abroad.

The Spring Féile will begin on Friday 29 April 2016 with a Traditional Session in St Patrick’s Hall, Coalisland where we will celebrate the 1916 Centenary. Through music, song and poetry we will reflect on the events leading up to and during Easter 1916 and the legacy that Comhaltas keeps alive today. Special Guests will come along to sing and play songs and celebrate the last 100 years of traditional music and song. ‘Our cultural identity was central to the aspirations and motivation of the 1916 Easter Rising. This was evident in the poetry, songs and writings of the leadership and others. This is encapsulated in the slogan ‘Éire ní hamháin saor ach Gaelach chomh maith’. This cultural emphasis is reflected in the ethos of Comhaltas’ as we endeavour to promote and preserve Irish Traditional Music, Song, Dance and Language in an inclusive and positive manner.  Entry is free and a light supper will provided.
